The Relationships Between Personal Data, Selected Factors and Holistic Self-Care Behaviors of Senior Students in Saint Louis College

Abstract

The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationships between personal background, selected factors and holistic self-care behaviors of senior students of Saint Louis College. 127 fourth years students from faculty of nursing, faculty of physical therapy and faculty of psychology in the first semester of the academic year 2019 were included as research participants, which were selected by quota and simple random sampling. The research tool was a questionnaire including personal data, attitude towards health care, interpersonal influence, and holistic self-care behaviors.The content validity was .77 and reliability was .83. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviations, Chi-square and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient.The conclusions were the fourth years students’ average scores of holistic self-care behaviors was at moderate level (x̄ =2.74, SD = .29), and the average scores of holistic self-care behaviors in faculty of nursing, faculty of physical therapy and faculty of psychology were 2.74, 2.78, and 2.72, respectively. The selected factors such as the attitude towards health care, interpersonal influence were statistically significant at the positive low and moderate relationships with the self-care behaviors at p<.01 (r = .270 and .469, respectively). The relationships between residential areas and the holistic self-care behaviors was significant at p<.001 (gif.latex?\chi&space;^{2}= 68.524), and no relationships in personal data. This study indicated the importance and needs for promoting health care behaviors in terms of organizing activities that enhance positive attitudes towards health and good interpersonal relations.
