Factors Related Quality of Life in Patients on Hemodialysis

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study the quality of life and factors related quality of life in patients on hemodialysis. The samples were 120 hemodialysis patients admitted at one hemodialysis clinic in Bangkok. The research instruments consist of personal data record form, laboratory record form, and Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form TM Questionnaire (KDQOL-SFTM) version 1.3 with reliability of 0.75 - 0.79. Data were collected from April-May, 2018. Statistic used for data analysis included descriptive statistic, Pearson’s correlation, t-test, and F-test. The finding revealed that the hemodialysis patients had the overall mean score of quality of life ( = 3.29, SD =.25) at the moderate level. Factors related quality of life: age was negative correlation in moderate level with physical functioning, physical role, and role emotional domain with a statistical significance level of 0.01 (r = -.40, -0.32 and -0.31, respectively). Female and male were statistically significant difference in physical functioning, physical role, and work status domain at p <.05. Marital status was statistically significant difference in physical functioning, physical role, role emotion, social support, dialysis staff encouragement, and patient satisfaction domain at p <.05. Travelling ability had significant difference with quality of life at p <.01. Hemoglobin and hematocrit were positive correlation in lower level with sleep domain (r =.293 and .239, respectively) statistically significant difference at p <.01.
