The Curriculum Evaluation of the Bachelor of Nursing Science (Revised Curriculum 2012) of Faculty of Nursing, Saint Louis College

Abstract

The aims of this descriptive research was to evaluate the curriculum context, input factors, teaching learning management process and curriculum product in the aspect of satisfaction with competency Thai Qualification Framework for Bachelor Degree of Nursing. Samples consist of 114 fourth year nursing students, who were studying in the second semester of the academic year 2015 and 28 nursing instructors. Two research instruments were used in this study. Firstly, a 4 parts curriculum evaluation questionnaire consists of the curriculum context, input factors, teaching learning management process and curriculum product. The questionnaire was approved by experts for its content validity. Index of Item Objective Congruence (IOC) was 1. The reliability of over all questionnaire, curriculum context, input factors, teaching learning management process and curriculum product, using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, were 0.90, 0.94, 0.93, 0.93 and 0.94 respectively. Secondly, an interview form, which was used to interview the problems, obstacles and suggestions of curiculum. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics: frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, and content analysis. The research results showed that: 1) the opinion of the fourth year nursing students and nursing instructors in curriculum context, input factors, and process were suitable at a high level, 2) curriculum product in the aspect of satisfaction with competency Thai Qualification Framework for Bachelor Degree of Nursing were at a high level. 3) the suggestion for the curriculum were as follow: a) Learning facilities should have enough classroom in small group, and be improved the quality of audiovisual equipment and internet in the classrooms, b) Learning measurement and evaluation should provided the nursing students to participate in peer evaluation, c) with respect to the competency under Thai Qualification Framework for Bachelor of Nursing Science, the curriculum should have test for preparing the nursing students’ English fundamental knowledge in the first year and set the assignment for the students to read the articles in English.
