Entrepreneurial Competencies and Teaching-Learning Strategies to Promote Entrepreneurial Competencies among Nursing Students

This qualitative descriptive research was conducted to explore entrepreneurial competencies and teaching–learning strategies to promote entrepreneurial competencies among nursing students. Twenty participants were selected in this study by purposive sampling. Research instrument was semi-structure questionnaire which was approved for construct validity by 3 experts; the content validity index (CVI) was 0.8. Data collection was conducted during April to May 2020. The data was analyzed by using content and tri-angulation analysis.

The results of the study revealed that entrepreneurial competencies among nursing students consisted of 2 domains: 1) interpersonal skills or soft skills and 2) working skills or hard skills. For soft skills were creative thinking, positive attitude, diligence and patience, leadership, vision, and problem-solving ability. And for hard skills were knowledge and business management skills, risk acceptance and IT skills. As for the teaching and learning strategies to promote entrepreneurial competencies were 1) developing an entrepreneur skill both in curriculum and institutional level, 2) providing teaching and learning in various techniques, 3) developing teacher’s knowledge and skills for entrepreneurship, 4) developing latent curriculum activities for students, 5) supporting by the curriculum’s administrators. Suggestion: the results of this study should be implemented for teaching and learning management and develop course syllabus to promote nursing students’ entrepreneurial competencies.
