Abstract

Kaempferia parviflora is one of Thai medicinal herbs that is used for treatment of some gastrointestinal diseases and increases libido. The effects of Kaempferia parviflora extract on platelet function in plasma were studied in 20 normal subjects. When adenosine 5'-diphosphate 20 mM was used for stimulation of platelet function, Kaempferia Parviflora extract 50 mg/mL was shown the significant increasd rate of platelet aggregation. This concentration was not shown the significant increase in platelet aggregation when compared to distilled water. When epinephrine 0.01 mM was used for induction of platelet function, Kaempferia Parviflora extract 1, 150, 300 and 600 mg/mL were shown the significant inhibition of platelet aggregation. However, rate of platelet aggregation was not shown the significant when compared to distilled water. Therefore, Kaempferia Parviflora extract 50 mg/mL could partially induce platelet function that might be involved the stimulation of P2Y1 receptor. Kaempferia Parviflora extract 1, 150, 300 and 600 mg/mL would partially inhibit platelet function that might be involved to inhibit a2 receptor. Kaempferia Parviflora extracts were shown the induction or inhibition of partially platelet function.
