Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the economic costs of drug abuse treatment at Thanyarak Institute for both inpatients and outpatients who were voluntary. The cost analysis was characterized by type of drugs which included amphetamine ,heroin ,volatile and alcohol for both service providers and clients. The observational form and questionnaires were employed for data collecting. The target groups were 193 addicted inpatients and 111 addicted outpatients. Arithmetic mean were used in this research for data analysis. The results of the research showed that service cost of inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment were 13,146 Baht and 831 Baht, respectively. The treatment cost in amphetamine case of an inpatient was 83,673 Baht and 29,718 Baht for an outpatient. The treatment cost in heroin case of an inpatient was 34,690 Baht and 29,397 Baht for an outpatient. The treatment cost in volatile case of an inpatient was 34,690 Baht and 29,397 Baht for an outpatient. The treatment cost in alcohol case of an inpatient was 85,067 Baht and 34,439 Baht for an outpatient. Therefore, the understanding in the economic cost of drug abuse treatment will help patients to plan the expense of treatment and the policy making of Thanyarak Institutions including to other Drug Treatment Center.
