Serosanguinous fluid was associated with malignant cell of Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital during 2002-2006

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between seroanguinous fluid with malignant cell in ascites and pleural fluid.
Material and methods: Ascites and pleural fluids were sent from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital to Department of Pathology, Faculty of , Chiang Mai University during 2002-2006. On arrival, the smears were prepared on clean glass slides by cytology laboratory method and counting for red blood cell by hematology method.
Result: A total of 3,349 cases were collected. It was found that 2,428 cases (72.5%) were serous fluid and 921 cases (27.5%) were serosanguinous fluid. The serosanuinous fluid was found malignant cell 645 cases (70%) and suggestive for malignant cell 133 cases (14.4%). The statistic result for Chi-Square is equal to 2121.516 and P-value < 0.001.
Conclusion: Serosanguinous fluid was associated with malignant cell. Bull Chiang Mai Assoc Med Sci 2008; 41: 72-78.
