Abstract

This research aimed to study the tobacco smoking situation, exposure to second-hand smok in Public Health Office, knowledge and attitudeof smokers, and development of non-smoker in Public Health Office from secondhand smoke. The study wasdivided into 2 parts, they were 1) analyzed the tobacco-use situation, exposure to secondhand smoking in Public Health Officewhich were conductedbyinterviewswith accidental sampling of 372 people, and 2) Development of a measure for non-smoker protection from secondhand smoke. Data were collected on purposive sampling from focused group discussion.Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics mean percentageand content analysis. Most of the respondents were; males 51.2%, their mean age was 41 years old, married 53%, completed primary school 35.8%, occupation is agriculture 30.1%,smoker26.6% and smokedin Public Health Office 28.3%,expose tosecondhand smoking 37.6%, ever seen smoking in Public Health Office 45.2%. The respondents had medium level of knowledge and medium level of attitude about risks of tobacco smoking and second hand smoke exposure. Development of measure for non-smoker protection in Public Health Office from second-hand smoke exposure consisted of 4 steps: 1) Create social rules; Increase the law enforcement. 2) Campaign to educate and implant the consciousness using media at various places in the community. 3) Create a smoking cessation clinic to support smoking cessation. 4) Create a new environment in the health care center for smoking prevention.
