Abstract

A descriptive survey was developed to assess and compare the happiness levels of workers from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds in the 24 District Health Systems (DHS) in Thailand. Stratified One-stage Cluster Sampling was adopted to use in this research. The sample size was 113 workers of the 24 DHS projects in Health Service Areas 2 and 3. A questionnaire with an Osgood rating scale was developed to collect data by self-reporting method and returned by mail. Descriptive statistics and statistical inferences such as t-test for two independent groups and F-test for 3 or more independent groups were used to analyze data. Results indicated that the happiness level of the majority of the sample people working in the sample is quite good (Mean = 432.50, SD = 103.967). A comparison of results by the population characteristic of education indicated differences are statistically significant at 0.05 between the happiness level of bachelor degree (Mean = 447.05 and SD = 86.160) and the level of higher education than bachelor degree (Mean = 405.36, SD = 104.190). The average happiness score was higher for those with only a bachelor degree or less than those who have more education than bachelor degree. The differences in the characteristics of people working the 24 DHS project, such as sex, marital, status, job description, having a sibling, doing exercise, consuming alcohol and tobacco were not significant.
