THE STUDY OF THAI’S FENCERS INJURIES IN 38TH NATIONAL SPORTS COMPETITION AT TRANG

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Thai’s fencer injuries of 38th National Sports Competition in Trang Game. 97 fencer participants competed in this Game and data collecting was derived by interview athletes in competition.  There were 63 fencers, 41 male (65.1%) and 22 female (34.9%) [Meanage of 22.77 ± 3.99 yr and 20.45 ± 3.36 yr respectively]. The results showed that 12 weeks period before National Sports Competition occur there were 39 cases of injury (61.9%).  The most injury founded during of training 79.48 %, whereas the competition was 20.52 %.  The sites of injury were ankle 46.15 %, knee 28.02 % wrist 15.38 % and thigh 10.25%. The main cause of injury is non-contacting or occurring by athletes oneself 38.46 %. The second caused 23.08 % by the opponent-contact. The factors contributing to fencing injuries were personal or internal athlete’s factors mainly inadequate warm-up, poor technique, muscles fatigue and over-training.
