Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to study the organizational context, the needs assessment, and the developing of a model of knowledge management for sport science and technology in the University of Phayao. For the research design, there were three groups of the 37 key informants : the students, the sport committee, and the administrators; knowledge management committees. The research instruments for gathering data were interview form, and record form. The data collections were undergone by 3 methods: 1) personal interview 2) focus group interview and 3) brainstorming. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted by the content analysis based on the consistency of all contents supported by the related conceptual theories. Finally, the developed model was implemented by participation action research-PAR method.

The results of the study showed that regarding to the organization context of Phayao University, there were two main findings: one is no KM participation of the university stakeholders, resulting in leading to the obstacle of long-live learning. Second is no KM enablers for the university stakeholders.
In terms of the needs’ assessment of the stakeholders, three outstanding needs were present as following: 1). The need of enablers to support long-life KM. 2). The need of the university students and staff’s participation. 3). The need of technology enablers for KM.

From the points of view of the developed model in sport science and technology in the university, the researchers found that three essential factors were overt in general. Firstly, it is KM enablers for the input. Secondly, it was communication of practices for KM process. The last one is learning organization culture, matching for the organization context of the university and the stakeholders’ needs, focusing on tacit knowledge exchange which was performed under technology enablers. The tacit knowledge exchange was processed among the university students, staff, athletic club members, sports committee and the department of sport science and technology. With this active participation of KM in the university, it led to an increase in knowledge development, an avoidance of unknown circumstance and sustainable development of KM for sport science and technology of Phayao University.
