Abstract

Although the FIFA World Cup 2022 has come to an end, the chaos caused by the questions raised and asked by society about a government’s roles and responsibilities in managing sports event broadcasting continues to be present and pervasive. To answer such questions, the article aims at reviewing literature related to the roles and responsibilities of a government in sports event broadcasting management toward the public interest. By examining the lessons learned through the lens of best practice countries using public economics framework, European countries, England, Norway, Canada, Australia, and Singapore are investigated. It is to provide directions of sports-management-related public policy and implications for relevant government agencies.
