Abstract

Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorder (DSM) has been a classification system for psychiatric disorders from DSM IV-TR  (2000) to DSM  5, May  2013. The author is mainly interested  in changes in child psychiatry. It was found that in addition to new terms for existing disorders, new categorizations, examples, and broader explanations of symptoms, it is likely that there will be an increase of many disorders ‘across life span’. Many disorders found in both children and adults showed a tendency to decrease the criteria threshold for easier diagnosis.  That may be increase the incidence of  child and adolescent psychiatric disorders in the future.
