Abstract

Objective: To study the resilience quotient (RQ) and retention among nursing personnel in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital and the relationship between resilience quotient and retention of nurses.

Methods: This study is a cross-sectional survey with stratified sampling comprising 313 nursing personnel in the Nursing Department, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. The research instruments used for the data collection were rating scale questionnaires: resilience and retention questionnaires. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of questionnaires was 0.84. The statistics used to analyze the data were descriptive, and Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient was at a 0.05 significance level.

Results: Most of the sample was female, 92.33%, with an average age of 36.11(± 11.48) years, bachelor's degree education, average work experience of 13.01 (± 11.11) years, caring for less than 20 patients/ shift, and working shifts of more than ten shifts/ per month. Their income ranged from 30,001 – 40,000 baht. The mean RQ scores of the samples were normal. The nurses' retention scores were high. RQ was significantly positively correlated with retention. (r=0.32, p<0.001)

Conclusion:  It can be concluded that fighting the COVID-19 pandemic requires mental strength. Therefore, administrators and organizations should create a system that can ensure the care of social and psychological confidence for nurses to increase retention
