ASEAN Institute for Health Development
Journal of Public Health and Development formerly known as Primary Health Care and Development, is a journal of health sciences published by the ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University, Thailand. The journal was founded in bilingual (English and Thai) since June 1988 and published two issues per year. Initially, the annual subscription rate for the journal was 90 Baht. From its inception, a primary goal of the journal has been to propagate innovative scientific research in the field of primary health care and development in Thailand and ASEAN. At that time, Associate Profressor Dr. Krasae Chanawongse, founder of AIHD was the first editor. Generally, the journal published scientific research and articles of scholars from outside AIHD as the institute was recognized as a research funder. The journal was stopped publishing from time to time because there was not enough articles for publishing and lack of allotted budget.
In 2003, AIHD republished the journal and changed the title to “Journal of Public Health and Development” with three issues per year and the annual subscription rate of 200 Baht. Still, the journal aimed to disseminate scientific research and articles in the field of public health development and well-being for the benefit of the health personnel at national, regional, and global levels.
The Editor-in-Chief, Associate Professor Dr Jiraporn Chompikul, and her team submitted the application to the TCI in 2009. It was evaluated by the Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) Centre in 2012, 2013 and 2015. It has been indexed in the TCI database (Tier 1) since 2012. In addition, the journal has been indexed in ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) since 2015. In 2017, it was one of 55 Journal to be selected and invited to join the TCI-TRF-SCOPUS collaboration project which aimed to select Thai journals to be indexed in the Scopus database using a fast track.
Currently, only English articles are accepted to be published in the Journal. The publication charge is 4,000 Baht per article (10 pages).
