Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of satisfactory ODS knowledge and its associated factors among pregnant women attending antenatal services at Wang Saphung Hospital, Loei, Thailand.

Materials & Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analytical study involving 415 singleton pregnant women attending the antenatal clinic at Wang Saphung Hospital in Loei, Thailand. A proficient research assistant utilized a data record form consisting of twenty items covering demographic and obstetric information, as well as sixteen items on ODS knowledge, during interviews. A score of at least 75% (12 points) was considered indicative of a good level of knowledge regarding ODS.

Results: Among the participants, 275 (66.27%) exhibited a good level of knowledge concerning ODS. Vaginal bleeding was the most widely recognized danger sign, whereas convulsion was the least recognized during pregnancy, and retained placenta was the least recognized during labor and delivery. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that higher education level, maternal age of at least 20 years, and receiving information from medical personnel were predictive factors associated with good ODS knowledge.

Conclusions: In the rural context of Thailand, a significant proportion of pregnant women demonstrated good knowledge of ODS. Identifying individuals at risk for inadequate knowledge and implementing timely interventions for vulnerable subgroups could contribute to reducing maternal mortality.
