Abstract

Ergonomics is the science of adapting work to human abilities and limitations. To improve workplace safety and work efficiency, every occupation has its associated risks and hazards. The dentistry profession is one of the professions that are at risk of ergonomics from MSDs, or cumulative trauma disorder (CTD). The risk factors of MSDs are improper positioning, infrequent breaks, repetitive movements, awkward posture for long periods of time, and improper handling of the device.  Ergonomic design is essential to prevent repetitive strain injuries (RSI), which can happen over time and can lead to long-term disability.  To create a good working environment and to ensure health and safety for operators, this will eventually lead to an increase in productivity.
