A COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TEACHING METHODS IN CATARACT PATIENT : LECTURES AND VIDEOS

Abstract

The quasi experiment research is done to improve the teaching techniques in cataract patients of Eye Ear Nose Throat ward in Nakhon Phanom hospital. The goal of this research is to compare the effectiveness between 2 teaching techniques: lecturing and video learning. The sample group includes male and female patients of 40 years old and above who were diagnosed with cataract and were admitted to Eye Ear Nose Throat ward in Nakhon Phanom hospital. The method used to find the sample size is Two independent means formula from n4Studies programme. The total sample size is 98 cataract patients. 49 patients were assigned for lecturing and the rest for self-video learning. All test subjects were required to fill up 2 questionnaires. One was general information about themselves and the other was about basic knowledge of cataract. The confidence of the knowledge proven by Cronbach’s coefficient +alpha is 0.72. The data were sampling purposively in Eye Ear Nose Throat ward from March 2016 to May 2016. And were analysed by using descriptive statistics e.g. percentage, mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics e.g. dependent t-test and independent t-test. The result shows incresed score statistically and significantly after test subjects received both lecturing and video learning. However, the scores of both teaching techniques show no significant difference. Thus, the result suggests that video learning can be used for giving knowledge and improving self-treatment in cataract patients after surgery.
