The effect of using nursing practice guidelines for pain management in postoperative abdominal patients Nakhon Phanom Hospital

Objective : To compare the results of using nursing practices in postoperative pain management in abdominal surgery patients. Materials and methods : Semi-experimental research (Quasi-Experimental Research) The sample group consisted of 60 abdominal surgery patients, divided into experimental groups, which were 30 patients who were nursing with nursing practice guidelines for pain management and the control group was the group that received 30 patients with the same practice guidelines. The tools used in the research consisted of 1) Patient care manuals according to nursing practice guidelines for managing postoperative pain for nurses2) Manual for management of postoperative abdominal pain for patients undergoing abdominal surgery 3) General patient record form and postoperative pain assessment form 4) Patient satisfaction questionnaire for receiving care for pain management Data were collected before and after surgery at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Data were analyzed by finding the frequency average percentage standard deviation, Chi – Square, independent t- test and paired sample t- test. Results : The mean score of pain at 24, 48 and 72 hours after surgery was significantly lower than the control group (p < .05). The mean score of pain before and after receiving Pain management in both the experimental group and the control group decreased but in the experimental group, the mean score of pain was lower than the control group in the 24, 48 and 72 hours with statistical significance (p < .05). The average satisfaction score of the control group was at a very satisfactory level, while the average satisfaction score of the experimental group was at the most satisfactory level. Conclusion : The experimental group had the mean score of pain score less than the control group and the mean of satisfaction was significantly higher than the control group (p < .05) and should consider using nursing practice guidelines for managing postoperative pain in Abdominal To be used in caring for other patients after surgery
