Effectiveness of clinical nursing practice guidelines for pain management in patients after surgery at Recovery room Nakhonphanom Hospital

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of the clinical nursing practice guidelines for pain management in patients after surgery.
Materials and methods: The subjects included 1) 30 patients after surgery 2) 21 nurse anesthetists, during October 2019 to March 2020. The study instruments were the clinical nursing practice guidelines for pain management in patients after surgery, 3 tools used for data collection were; 1) pain assessment using numeric rating scale (NRS) 2) satisfaction assessment of patients and 3) satisfaction assessment of nurse anesthetists. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test.
Results: The post operative pain assessments at first time in recovery room were severe level (43.33), moderate level (53.33) and minimal level (3.34). Before transfer to ward, all of them were minimal level (100%). The mean score of pain before transfer to ward was less than the first time at recovery room, significantly (p<0.01). Both patients and nurse anesthetists had a highest level of satisfaction score (=4.83, 4.86) respectively.
Conclusion: The results of this study confirm the effectiveness of the clinical nursing practice guidelines for pain management in patients after surgery.
