Abstract

Objective To compare the effectiveness between color blindness test plate and traffic light simulator for Thai driving license test

Methods A prospective, interventional pilot study was performed. Patients with color vision deficiency were included. Patients underwent color blindness exam with color blindness test plate and traffic light simulator. Chi-square statistical analysis were used to compare the results between 2 exams

Results Twenty eight patients were included with age 20 to 66 years. 75% and 64.3% were passed by color blindness test plate and traffic light simulator respectively. P-value from Chi-square test was 0.383 (>0.05), that means the pass rate was not different between 2 exams. Additionally, age and severity of color blindness were not different (p= 0.567, 0.483 respectively) between passed and not passed groups.

Conclusions The color blindness test plate and traffic light simulator for Thai driving license exam have not different effectiveness in terms of passing rate, so they can be substituted with each other to distinguish between red, green and amber color. However, the study is small, further study with larger number is recommended.
