Abstract
Relationships between Coaching Style and Sources of Self-Efficacy in Basketball
This research was an observational research, aimed to develop the self-efficacy questionnaire for studying the coaching styles, as well as the use of sources of self-efficacy, and relationship between the coaching styles and the use of sources of self-efficacy in basketball. Data were collected by means of responding to the questionnaire of 205 Thai basketball coaches (male = 142, female = 63). Results were found that: 1) Most Thai basketball coaches were the training and instruction coaching behavior that more emphasized teaching and performing skill than the democratic coaching behavior and the social support behavior. In addition, there were least numbers of the questionnaire completion in the rewarding or positive-feedback behavior, and there was no completion in the autocratic coaching behavior, 2) procedure of building up self-efficacy that the basketball coaches conducted to athletes and that made athletes mostly have self-confidence is the verbal persuasion as a procedure conducted to use more than other. Furthermore, emotional and physiological arousals were procedures that coaches least conducted to use in athletes, 3) styles of basketball coach in the training and instruction coaching behavior, as well as the social support behavior, and the rewarding or positive-feedback behavior as a style that emphasized giving the rewarding or positive-feedback, firstly used the verbal persuasion. moreover, these coaches lastly used the procedures of emotional and physiological arousals, 4) styles of basketball coach had relationship to rank of use of sources of self-efficacy; the training and instruction coaching behavior had relation of use of self-efficacy with the rewarding or positive-feedback behavior emphasizing giving a reward; and the democratic coaching behavior had relation to the social support behavior
