Developing The Sport Complex Business Model at Hochiminh City University of Sport in Vietnam

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the Sport Complex Business model at Hochiminh city University in Viet Nam. The interview question form was used to gain the information about business model of four kinds of sport business included Sport Tourism and Recreation, Sport Event organizer, Hotel and Catering service, and Sport Clothing and Equipment service. This study is a survey research on sport business based on a business model, the sample of the study was conducted by twenty-three experts, included the experts inside HUS (three experts, there are the managers who worked for a long time at Hochiminh City University of Sport), and the experts outside HUS (twenty experts outside HUS, are the managers or officers who worked in business companies or units related four kinds of business sport). First of all, the researcher made the interview question form and it was approved by the experts and advisors. Then, each of three experts inside HUS wrote the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of HUS for the researcher to synthesize the HUS’s SWOT analysis. The researcher used this form to interview the experts inside HUS and this form and HUS’s SWOT analysis to interview the experts outside HUS to gain data information. These information were qualitative data, and it was analyzed by content analysis and triangulation in order to determine confirm data. The focus group which seven experts had a meeting in order to discuss and contribute their ideas or opinions for the HUS’s sport complex business model in order to determine its effectiveness about laws and processes. The results and conclusion of this study was that the HUS sport complex business model should include four activities, namely Sport Tourism and Recreation, Sport Event organizer, Hotel and Catering service, and Sport Clothing and Equipment service. The number of activities for each campus however is not similar, in fact, main campus and campus inside Hochiminh City should have three of four activities such as Sport Event organizer, Hotel and Catering service, and Sport Clothing and Equipment service; while campus in Mui Ne and campus in Da Lat should have all four activities.
