Factors Influencing Nurses’ Perceptions on Patient Safety Culture in The Community Hospitals, Phitsanulok Province

Abstract

This descriptive predictive study aimed to examine factors predicting patient safety culture perceived by nurses in the community hospitals, Phitsanulok province. Sample were 258 registered nurses worked in eight community hospitals, Phitsanulok province. Data were collected using two instruments. The first instruments were the factors influencing patient safety culture questionnaire include 7 aspects; Institutional context factors, Organizational and management factors, Work environment factors, Team factors, Individual factors, Task factors and patient factors. The questionnaire was developed based on Vincent’s framework by the researcher and approved by five experts. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient reliability was 0.97. Another one of an instrument was the hospital survey on patient safety culture questionnaire conducted by the Healthcare Accreditation Institute. (Healthcare Accreditation Institute, 2551). It’s Cronbach’s alpha coefficient reliability was 0.88. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results of the study showed that the work factors, patient factors, and staff factors in term of work experience together explained 12.1% of the variance in patient safety culture.
