การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการป้องกันและควบคุมโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ของโรงเรียนในสังกัดสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษาเขต 5 ที่ตั้งอยู่ในจังหวัดที่ได้รับการประกาศให้เป็นพื้นที่ควบคุมสูงสุด กับโรงเรียนในจังหวัดที่ไม่ได้รับการประกาศให้เป็นพื้นที่ควบคุมสูงสุด เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามออนไลน์กับโรงเรียนทั้งสิ้น 64 แห่ง การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาและสถิติ Mann-Whitney U เพื่อทดสอบความแตกต่างระหว่างกลุ่ม ผลการศึกษาพบว่า โรงเรียนในสังกัดสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษาเขต 5 ที่ตั้งอยู่ในจังหวัดที่ไม่ได้รับการประกาศให้เป็นพื้นที่ควบคุมสูงสุด มีการป้องกันและควบคุมโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 สูงกว่าโรงเรียนที่ได้รับการประกาศให้เป็นพื้นที่ควบคุมสูงสุดใน 2 ประเด็น คือ 1) กิจกรรมการเฝ้าระวังและป้องกันโรคเมื่อเปิดการเรียนการสอน และ 2) การแยกตัวอยู่บ้านของผู้สัมผัสที่มีความเสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อสูงแต่ไม่มีอาการ บทความนี้สามารถนำไปใช้เป็นแนวทางในการสร้างความรู้เกี่ยวกับการป้องกันและควบคุมโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ให้กับบุคลากรในโรงเรียนที่สังกัดสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษาเขต 5 และสามารถใช้เป็นข้อมูลให้กับโรงเรียนในสังกัดอื่น ๆ ในการนำไปปรับใช้ต่อไปได้ นอกจากนี้ บทความนี้ยังเป็นประโยชน์กับสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษามัธยมศึกษาเขต 5 โดยสามารถนำผลการศึกษาไปสนับสนุนวัสดุอุปกรณ์เพื่อป้องกันและควบคุมโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา 2019 ให้กับโรงเรียน เช่น หน้ากากอนามัย และ face shield ได้อย่างเหมาะสมต่อไป
