One hundred and thirty-two of secondary school students were recruited by using a simple sampling technique. The instruments used for data collection were: demographic data form, negative event scale, rumination response scale, emotional distress scale, multidimensional scale of perceived social support, resilience inventory, and suicide risk behaviors scale. Internal consistency reliability for each questionnaire tested by Cronbach’s alpha were .95, .94, .93, .93, .96, and .86 respectively. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistic and Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient.

The major findings were as follow: emotional distress, rumination, and perceived negative life event were positively significant with suicide risk behaviors among secondary school students (r = .36, p = .00, r = .48, p = .00 and r = .57, p = .00, respectively). On the other hand, social support and resilience were negatively significant with suicide risk behaviors among secondary school students (r = -.57, p = .00 and r = -.31, p = .00, respectively). Nurses and other related people can utilize these findings as empirical evidence to minimize risk factors as well as emphasize on protective factors related to suicide risk behaviors among this population.
ER -
