The samples consisted of 48 women with GDM attending antenatal clinic at Prapokklao Hospital, Chanthaburi Province and were equally divided into an experimental group (n = 24) and a comparison group (n = 24). The research instruments comprised a self-management support program, a general information questionnaire, a diabetes self-management behavior questionnaire with the reliability of .77, and a blood sugar levels record sheet. The implementation and data collection were conducted from February to June, 2018. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, Chi-square test, and Fisher’s exact test.

The research results revealed that the experimental group had statistically significant higher mean score of diabetes self-management behavior and lower mean blood sugar level than the comparison group (t = 4.257, p < .001 and t = 1.919, p < .05, respectively).

This research suggests that antenatal nurses should apply this self-management support program in caring for women with GDM in order to promote their appropriate self-management behaviors and normal blood sugar levels.
ER -
