The samples consisted of 30 suicidal attempters who received service at the in-patient department, Trat Hospital and were equally divided into an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). The research instruments included the brief intervention program, the Herth Hope Index with the reliability of .80, the demographic questionnaire, and the SSI-Thai version 2014 with the reliability of .81. The implementation and data collection were conducted from January to May, 2018. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, paired t-test, and independent t-test.

The research results revealed that after the experiment, the experimental group had statistically significant lower mean score of suicidal ideation than that of before the experiment (t = 14.228, p < .001) and lower than that of the control group (t = 2.188, p < .05).

This research suggests that psychiatric care nurses should apply this brief intervention program to prevent suicidal ideation among suicidal attempters. The program would promote suicidal attempters to have hope and appropriate behaviors in order to prevent suicide.
}, number={1}, journal={Journal of Phrapokklao Nursing College, Chanthaburi}, author={Pooasa, Suwaluk and Uthis, Penpaktr}, year={2020}, month={Jun.}, pages={51–60} }
