It has been a major problem for public health and society for a long time. This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of the lifeskills approach with parental support for the prevention of sexual abuse among grade four school girls in primary school, Suphanburi Province. Simple random sampling was used for the selection of 60 students, 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. The experimental group received a lifeskills development program with participatory learning processes for the prevention of sexual abuse. In this program, information and emotional support from parents promoted the self-awareness, critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills during four trainings of this six week training. The data were represented as percentage, mean, and standard deviation with analysis using paired and independent t-tests.

After the experimental program, the experimental group had significantly higher scores of knowledge about sexual harassment than before the program and higher than the comparison group (p-value <. 05). Scores of life skills for sexual abuse prevention were also significantly higher than before the program and than in the comparison group (p-value <. 001).

This research suggests that nurses working in both communities and schools should establish and use programs to improve life skills for sexual abuse prevention among female students.
ER -
