Participants were: 23 older adults with comorbidity; 9 family caregivers; 9 community leaders/ health care volunteers; and 5 staffs of the primary care unit. The study was carried out from October 2009 to June 2010. Data were collected by using focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, informal conversations, observations, and fi eld note taking. Content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. Results revealed that perception of older adults with comorbidity comprised of three phases: 1) The phase of worrying; 2) The phase of adapting; and 3) The phase of accepting. It was found that self care perceptions of this group consisted of multiple medications management, attending various doctors and health care services, multiple behavioral modifi cations, and depending on family caregivers. Characteristics of self care varied from fl exible to strictly adhere to the advice of the health care team. Factors related to self care of older adults with comorbidity were identifi ed as personal factors, factors about caregivers, factors about health care services, and environmental factors. Findings from this study can be useful for developing effective nursing/ health care services concerning perception, self care and self care related factors to solve complex health problems of older adults with comorbidity.
