Abstract

The purpose of this clinical control trail study was to compare the labor pain during the 1st stage of labor among 57 primigravida at Health Promotion Center Region 6, Khon Kaen. Women were divided into 3 groups, with 19 women in each group.  Group 1 and 2 received acupressure at Hegu and Sanyinjiao point respectively for 20 minutes while group 3 received routine care only. VAS was used to assess pain scores at pre-test, immediately after the treatment and 30 minutes after the treatment. One way ANOVA and repeated measure ANOVA were used for data analysis. The results showed that: pain scores within group, at immediately after the Hegu and Sanyinjiao acupressure were lower pain scores than before the treatment (p<.05), while the control group had higher pain scores than before the treatment (p>.05). Pain scores between groups, after the treatment were not significantly different between Hegu and Sanyinjiao groups (p>.05). However, pain scores were significantly lower in Sanyinjiao group (P< .05) when compared to the control group whereas no differences were found between the Hegu and the control groups (p>.05).
