Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to assess the learning need methods and self directed learning of nursing students in midwifery practicum in the fourth year nursing students. The data collection on 176 students by questionnaire after practice fi nished in February 2014 and were analyzed by frequency, and percentage. The research found that the learning need methods which students need in order from the most to the less, including clinical teaching by student, clinical teaching by instructor, self directed learning, individual teaching, case conference, and case study reports, respectively. The self directed learning was used by students in order from the most to the less is the seeking knowledge and self-responsibility, targeting of nursing practice, self directed learning with continuing knowledge, self directed learning and learning with others, allocation of time and seeking information, and learning in different situations, respectively. Concluded that the teacher must fi nd strategies to encourage students to do more the case report and learning in different situations.
