Effects of the Workshop Training on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Skills of Basic First-Aid among Working-Age People

This quasi-experimental research aimed to evaluate the effects of the workshop training on knowledge, attitudes, and skills of basic first-aid among working-age people. Seventy-two participants from a village in Khon Kaen were recruited. They received a 4-session workshop training, consisting of 1) basic first-aid for snake bite and chemical poisoning, 2) basic life support, 3) basic first-aid for wounds and burns, and 4) basic first-aid for fractures and ankle sprain. Knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to basic first-aid were assessed before and after the training. Results revealed that after attending the training, participants significantly increased in knowledge scores on overall and each domain of first-aid (p<.01). Also, their attitudes toward first-aid were significantly increased, comparing between before and after training (p<.01). Lastly, participants demonstrated the high level of first-aid skills in all domains, with the accuracy of performance over 80%. In conclusion, the workshop training can improve knowledge, attitudes, and skills of basic first-aid in working-age people which, in turn, help them to promote health and safety in the community.
