Abstract

This study aimed to develop the Clinical Nursing Practice Guideline (CNPG) for inhibition of preterm labor by intravenous Terbutaline. Subjects included 21 registered nurse-midwives and 21 pregnant women who underwent uterine contraction inhibition by intravenous terbutaline at Udonthani Hospital. The quality of draft CNPG was assessed by 1) content validity, 2) Mason’s criterion for standards of care, and 3) satisfaction of the 21 nurse-midwives. The study was done during 1 February, 2011 – 28 February, 2013.Draft CNPG had five steps (54 nursing activities); 1) giving treatment information, 2) preparing the patients before giving Turbutaline, 3) preparing the equipment, 4) administering the intravenous terbutaline, and 5) nursing care while taking terbutaline. Pilot results revealed that nurse-midwives were able to practice 90% of 51 activities while completed only 85.7%, 71.42, and 47.62% in 3 activities. Final evaluation of the CNPG resulted in 5 steps 52 activities. More than 80% of nurse-midwives reported a high satisfaction toward the CNPG in terms of content appropriate and feasibility. The final result of this CNPG consisted of five steps with 52 activi-ties.
