The Effect of Self-Efficacy Program for Changing Snack Consumption Behavior Among Grade 5 Students Pitsanuloke Province*

Abstract

This study was a quasi-experimental research aiming to study the effect of self-efficacy
program for changing snack consumption behavior among grade 5 students in Pitsanuloke
Province. The samples were composed of 66 grade 5 students, 35 in the experimental group and
31 in the comparison group. The experimental group had participated in the total of 4 sessions of
the health education program aiming to enhance students snack consumption knowledge,
perceived self-efficacy, positive outcome and correct snack consumption behavior through the
use of lecture with power point presentation, video learning, teaching and demonstration about
reading nutrition information, group discussion, simulation game, mastery experience, modeling,
verbal persuasion, and emotional arousal. The instruments used for data collection were
questionnaire and snack consumption recording form, and data analysis was done by computing
frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation while hypothesis testing was done by using
Paired sample t-test and Independent t-test.
After the completion of the program applied perceived self-efficacy theory for changing
snack consumption behavior it was found that the experimental group gained significantly higher
level of knowledge, perceived self-efficacy, positive outcome expectation and correct snack
consumption behavior than before the program and than the comparison group
