Obesity results in body cells unable to response to insulin hormone. Children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes mellitus led to serious complications. Factors associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents include; obesity, eating behavior, physical activity or exercise, stress, genetics, media, and technology. Prevention is important for reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus in<br>children and adolescents. Nurses who work at the outpatient department (OPD), as a partof multidisciplinary team, play important roles in preventionof diabetes in children and adolescents such as screening of diabetes in a high-risk group, adjusting lifestyle and health behaviors on nutrition, performing proper physical activity and exercise, and emotional control. The principles of prevention based on provision of knowledge and skill development on self-management. Nurses’ awarenessof type2 diabetes mellitus paves the wayfor childrenand adolescents to prevent this disease. This article aims to present the roles of OPD nurses in prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents. OPD nurses may apply the content as guidelines to prevent type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents so that they grow up with good quality of life.</p> ER -
