The Model Construction for Developing Positive Psychological Capital among Professional Nurses under the Ministry of Defense, Thailand

Abstract

The research aimed to study the model for developing positive psychological capital of professional nurses and study positive psychological capital components and to construct a training group model for developing the positive psychological capital of professional nurses in the Ministry of Defense, Bangkok, Thailand.  The population was 2,600 professional nurses from 3 main hospitals, Pramongkutklao Hospital, BhumipholAdulyadej Hosptial and SomdejPraPinkla Hospital.  Samples were divided into 2 groups;  first group was 1,000 professional nurses  for conducting variables and developing Positive Psychological Capital. Second group was 40 professional nurses; simple randomly selected was used to spate into 2 groups equally. Experimental group was conducted into Positive Psychological Capital. The factor analysis significantly confirmed  that  the  model  of  Positive Psychological Capital functioning  could  be  characterized into five factors: self-efficacy, hope, optimism, resiliency and hardiness.  These  five  factors were  high  loading  at  the .05  level  and  could  measure  the  Positive Psychological Capital functioning  factors, The Positive Psychological Capital training group model consisted of three stages: the initial stage, the working stage and the ending stage. The  results of  this  study  indicate  that  the Positive Psychological Capital training group was  a  key  factor  in  increasing  positive  change  in  the  Positive Psychological Capital of  these professional nurses and statistically  significant  differences  of .05 in  the total Positive Psychological Capital and in each of the components of the Positive Psychological Capital between the experimental  group and  the  control  group existed  before  and  after their participation in the training group and  after  the follow up period. Positive Psychological Capital questionnaires can be used with professional nurses throughout the country.
