Development of small t trauma assessing instrument for secondary school students

Abstract

Background : Small t trauma is events that may seem insignificant or normal events in everyday life, but which can lead to extreme stress or overwhelms emotion, Such as being bullied or teased in the school, be punished by parent, and any emotional painful experiences that have emotional impact to the person who is experiencing. Thus, attention to education and create the assessing instrument for survey to understand the small t trauma
of secondary school students. The findings will be used as a guide to prevent problems caused by the small t trauma.


Objective : To develop an assesssing instrument that can classify the groups of small t trauma for 3 groups are: high, moderate, and low.


Materials and Methods : The study population were 660 secondary school students of Streesmutprakan School, academic year 2015. The data from the subjects were calculated based questionnaire analyses. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect the data including the personal data and small t trauma. As for the quality of
assessing instrument, it is presented in the contents validity, construct validity, reliability, discrimination and percentile for cut of point to classify the groups of small t trauma for 3 groups.


Results : The results showed that most of subjects had low level of small t trauma. (mean = 105.46) The related factors of small t trauma are gender and parental marital status (Chi-square; P = 0.006 and 0.019). In addition, the quality of assessing instrument showed that the contents validity, construct validity, reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.936) and discrimination was good.


Conclusion : Most students had low level of small t trauma. The related factors of small t trauma were gender and parental mental status. Additionally, the quality of assessing instrument is good.
