Enhancing effective self-management for blood pressure control is necessary. This quasi-experimental study, employing a one-group pretest-posttest design, aimed to examine the effectiveness of a self-management program on antihypertensive medication adherence among ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis. The study was conducted with 31 ESRD patients at Chiang Kham Hospital, Phayao Province. The instruments included an antihypertensive medication self-management program, a personal data form, adherence monitoring through pill counts, an assessment of knowledge of antihypertensive medication, an assessment of behavior related to antihypertensive medication-taking. The reliability of the two instruments was later assessed, with Cronbach's alpha coefficients of .97 and .91, respectively. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test. The findings revealed that after completing the program, the mean score of knowledge of antihypertensive medication (t=12.93, p<.001), antihypertensive medication-taking behavior (t=9.55, p<.001), and adherence to antihypertensive medication (t=7.07, p<.001) were statistically significantly increasing. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant lowering in the mean score of systolic blood pressure (t=7.56, p<.001) and diastolic blood pressure (t=4.22, p<.001) levels. Therefore, this program could be integrated into caring for dialysis patients to promote self-management behavior for blood pressure control.
2024-08-09T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Nursing and Health Researchhttps://he01.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/bcnpy/article/view/270959Factors associated with quality of life among dependent older people in Muang district2024-05-09T11:27:07+07:00Sukanya Buasribuasri.sky@gmail.comWaravan Supatawaravan.supata@crc.ac.th
The number of older people international level including in Thailand increased rapidly. Older people have many health problems and bodily functions decline. This led to the number of dependent older people increasing. This correlation study design aimed to 1) identify the level of quality of life among dependent older people and 2) study factors associated with quality of life among dependent older people. Simple random sampling was used to recruit 265 dependent older people in Muang Chiang Rai district. The data collection instruments consisted of a general information survey, WHOQOL-OLD scale (Thai version), and activities of daily living scale. The reliability of both scales has been confirmed with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .82 and .85 respectively. Descriptive statistics namely number, percent, mean, and standard deviation were applied to analyze data. Fisher’s exact and Pearson’s product moment correlation were also used to analyze data. Results of the study showed that dependent older people had quality of life at an average level (69.81%) and a good level (29.06 %). Education (=42.345, p<.05), living habitat (=17.553, p<.05), and basic daily life activities factors were positively associated with the quality of life of dependent older people (r=.137, p=.05). While, income was negatively related to the quality of life (r=-.191, p=.05). Professional nurses and personnel who are responsible to provide care for dependent older people can use the results of the study to enhance the quality of life among these older people.
2024-05-31T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Nursing and Health Researchhttps://he01.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/bcnpy/article/view/271048Effects of re-training with home visits on knowledge and practical skills among peritoneal dialysis patients with peritonitis2024-06-24T11:41:35+07:00Busabarat Yawichaiwanpenmar@gmail.comWanpen Boonprasertwanpen.boon@crru.ac.th
Peritonitis is a significant and common complication in peritoneal dialysis patients, re-training with home visits was required in both knowledge and practical skills in peritoneal dialysis, along with continuous monitoring at home to reduce the severity of the disease and prevent the recurrence of peritonitis. The research aimed to compare the knowledge and practical skills to prevent peritonitis before and after re-training among peritoneal dialysis patients with peritonitis. This study was a quasi-experimental research, one group pretest-posttest design. A purposive sampling group of peritoneal dialysis patients with peritonitis in 34 cases was assigned to re-training and follow-up at Chiang Kham Hospital and continuous home health care. Data were collected using questionnaires, knowledge tests, and practical skills assessment in peritoneal dialysis assessment form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. After program completion, the scores of knowledge and practical skills were statistically significantly higher than before the re-training with home visits for continuity of care (p<.01). The study showed that re-training results increase peritoneal dialysis patients' knowledge and practical skills and continuous self-care in performing peritoneal dialysis. Therefore, continuous follow-up and application as a training model for new peritoneal dialysis patients and further training in peritoneal dialysis patients with peritonitis are recommended in other areas.
2024-08-31T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Nursing and Health Researchhttps://he01.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/bcnpy/article/view/267358Factors influencing breastfeeding among postpartum mothers in the postpartum ward2024-07-25T09:59:22+07:00kanjananat Tongmuangtunyateptomtam2512@gmail.comChonnipa Somboonsopon.bo@lsed.tu.ac.th
Breastfeeding is important for a child’s health. Studies on influencing factors are therefore necessary. This experimental research design; pretest-posttest control group design aimed to examine the effects of a virtual reality rehabilitation program on motivation, hip function, and perceived self-efficacy among older persons with post-operation of the hip. A total of 88 older adults were recruited and simple random sampling. They were allocated into the experimental and control groups by block randomization 44 each group. The instruments were the virtual reality of a rehabilitation program (VR-rehabilitation program) for the elderly with a post-operation, motivation scale, and post-operative hip self-efficacy scale (PHOSE). The scale-level content validity of all instruments was at .97-.1.00. The instruments had an acceptable reliability of .81-.97. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (One-way MANOVA). The results of this research demonstrated that: The effect of the VR-rehabilitation program on older adults, in the experimental group had the mean scores of hip function, motivation, and self-efficacy different from the control group with a statistically significant (F1,86=198.67, 157.14, 135.34, p<.001). After the intervention, the effects of the VR-rehabilitation program were significantly higher mean scores of hip function, motivation, and perceived self-efficacy than before the intervention ( =58.27, 136.27, 56.41, p<.001). The results of the VR-rehabilitation program can be used in postoperative nursing care for older adults undergoing hip surgery and applied to other orthopedic patients or other diseases.
2024-08-31T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Nursing and Health Researchhttps://he01.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/bcnpy/article/view/272450Perceived positive psychological capital and factors associated with the development of positive psychological capital among nursing students2024-08-09T13:08:21+07:00Pimpimon Wongchaiyapimpimon.won@crru.ac.thManeerat Punsawatmaneerat.pun@crru.ac.th
Positive psychological capital is the positive characteristics of the mind that contribute to individuals’ well-being and success. This study aimed to explore the perception of positive psychological capital among nursing students and the factors associated with its development. A descriptive qualitative research was employed and a semi-structured interview was used for data collection. The informants were fifteen nursing students. A content analysis was performed to establish themes and sub-themes. Three main themes were established from the preexisting framework: perceptions of positive psychological capital, factors contributing to positive psychological capital developments, and barriers to developing positive psychological capital. The perception of positive psychological capital theme had two sub-themes including 1) perceptions of strength and weakness regarding positive psychological capital, and 2) changes in positive psychological capital. Within factors contributing to positive psychological capital developments, six subthemes emerged including support and care from significant ones, learning from doing, coping and stress management, motivations for a better future of their own and families, learning from a model, and adjusted perspectives and reframing thoughts. Regarding barriers to developing positive psychological capital themes, three subthemes were revealed: 1) negative interactions, 2) ineffective coping, and 3) lack of confidence. These emerging themes would be useful for creating a model for developing positive psychological capital for nursing students.
2024-08-31T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Nursing and Health Research
