Data were collected from 1,363 respondents using questionnaires as the collecting tools during the period 10-25 February 2012. Statistics used for analysis were mean, percentage, standard deviation one-way ANOVA and Chi-square test.

The study found that the majority of the respondents (55.9%) had decided to donate blood. Of all the respondents 67% had medium level of knowledge, 65.9% had medium level of attitudes. There was a higher percentage of people with negative attitudes than people with positive attitudes, the level of perceptions about blood donation was medium (62.8%). The level of motivation about blood donation was medium (73.5%). After testing of the differences between average score of knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and motivation with the decision to donate blood, the result showed that the average scores of knowledge, perceptions and motivation about blood donation among the donor group were higher than other groups with statistical significance (p = 0.01) However the average score of attitudes among the donor group was not statistically significant different from non-donor and non-certain groups. Relationship analysis between personal variables with decisions to donate blood found that the respondents with differences in age, level of education, occupation monthly income and experience of blood donation had different decisions in blood donation with statistical significance (p=0.01). The respondents with different sex and religion did not have different decisions in donating blood.

The recommendation from the research were; there should be more educational campaigns about blood donation for people and communities to reinforce perceptions and positive attitudes including creating motivation to donate blood by diversified means of public relations and should be done regularly to achieve more donations of blood.
ER -
