Reflection is a vital teaching strategy applied both in theory and practice for the global schools of nursing. It provides the nursing students to evaluate themselves and critically review on their thoughts, feelings and actions through their experiences with the aims of developing the personal growth and the nursing skills. As a result, the nursing students expand the new knowledge that helps them to make more effective decision on their current and future clinical practices. Additionally, reflection contributes to the nursing students’ professional motivation and their lifelong learning. This article aims to demonstrate the basic concepts of reflection and the guideline for both nursing educators and nursing students who start engaging in reflective learning. The article concludes by illustrating the meaning of reflection, types of reflection, what to reflect on, using Gibbs’ Model of reflection in nursing practice including the example reflective essay, the reflection of assessment guide and suggestions for learning development through reflection.
