Fourty males who smoking regularly were selected and randomly assigned in equal numbers into experimental group and control group. Each group was matched by age and nicotine addicted level. The experimental group received empowerment program, Based on Gibson’ concept. The program consisted of four stages: 1), Discovering Reality, 2). Critical Reflection, 3) Taking Charge, and 4). Holding on, while control group received knowledge. The instruments composed of empowerment program, recorded data form, knowledge questionnaires, and decreased smoking behavior questionnaires. Content validity were revised by the experts. The reliability of knowledge and decreased smoking behavior were .80, 72 respectively. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test. The results showed as follow: 1) The experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of knowledge and decreased smoking behavior after receiving the empowerment program than before implementation of the program and had significantly lower average number of cigarettes per day than before implementation the program. (p &lt; .001). 2) It was also found that the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores of knowledge and decreased smoking behavior after receiving the empowerment program than control group and had significantly lower average number of cigarettes per day than control group (p&lt; .001).</p> ER -
