Participatory Management of Stroke among the Population at Risk using the KhlongKlung District Health Board Mechanism,Khampangphet Province

Abstract

This study used a participatory action research design. There were 720 participants that include membersof KhlongKhlung district health board, district health management team, and other key stakeholders such as leaders of local governments, private sectors, residents, and village health volunteers. The pilot area of 3 sub-districts was composed of Wang Yang, Wang Sai and Mae Lad. Research was conducted during the period of September 1, 2017-August 31, 2018. Data were collected using a data-oriented context, group discussion, observation and questionnaire. Data analysis was donewith descriptive statisticsand content analysis, which was divided into that:Look Phase, Think Phase and Act Phase Research result showed: 1) Look Phase: 1.1) Patients with acute stroke attack could not get an effective access to emergency services. 1.2) Referral system for emergency coverage at the sub-district level.1.3) Population at risk of hypertension and diabetes mellitus was rising steadily. 2) Think Phase: It was found that most of the participants never get to know about stroke, which represents a cerebral paralysis or atresia/paralysis,the symptom of limb weakness, but can be cured. 3) Act Phase are: 3.1) Developing a referral system for emergency stroke by associating network activities, rescue andseamless mapping the homes of at risk, 3.2) Capacity building for community partnership networks and people to build awareness and participation of all sectors into practice and 3.3) The development, management andoperation of support systems. This study shows the preliminary results from the implementation of the participation of all sectors in the sub-districtlevel to solve and prevent stroke in KhlongKhlung district.
