Participants were recruited to the study using convenience sampling. The sample consisted of 120 patients. Data were collected by using a Demographic Questionnaire, Medication Adherence
Report Scale, Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire-Specific and Satisfaction of Treatment Explanation Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis. The results showed that more than half of the sample (61.7%) had inhaled combined bronchodilator and corticosteroid therapy adherence, while perceived medication necessity, medication concern, satisfaction with information received and experience of exacerbation together contributed for 14.7% of variation on inhaled
combined bronchodilator and corticosteroid therapy adherence in COPD. It was also found that medication concern and experience of exacerbation could predict inhaled therapy adherence in COPD with statistical significance at .05 level. Based on the study’s results, it was suggested that nurses should pay attention to assessing medication concern, provide information about prevention and deal with side effect, emphasize the importance of medication adherence for the prevention of exacerbation.
ER -
