The objective was to study risk factors of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis. A retrospective cohort study was conducted by collecting data from 180 patients aged more than 15 years old in Tuberculosis clinic at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital between 2018 to 2020. Results: 180 patients were enrolled with mean age 48 ([SD=18] years. There were 33.9% smear-positive patients. There were 10.6% of patients with HIV infection. 15% had history of previous tuberculosis. 15.6% had history of prisoners. In this group, there were 30 patients diagnosed with MDR-TB. The risk factors of MDR-TB at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital were history of previous tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, HIV infection and age > 45 years old with Odds ratio 13.97, 6.74, 4.54 and 4.01 respectively. Adverse events occurred in patients with MDR-TB more than non MDR-TB 33.75 times. One of the most common side effects was hypothyroidism. Outcome in treatment: 83.33% cured and 11.11% dead. Death in patients with MDR-TB was more than non MDR-TB 4.18 times. The author recommended that we should promote screening system to detect MDR-TB in Tuberculosis clinic at Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya hospital in patients with history of previous tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus and HIV infection, which leads to appropriate investigation and treatment for better outcome, decrease side effects and improve survival.
ER -
