Factors associated with caregivers' skills in caring for the older adult in Sukhothai Province
Keywords:
Skill, Caregiver, Older adultAbstract
The purpose of this descriptive research was to study factors associated with caregivers' skills in
caring for the older adult in Sukhothai. The study subjects were 213 caregivers in Sukhothai, which selected by
simple random sampling and collected data by using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive
statistics, Point biserial correlation coefficient, Eta correlation coefficient, and Spearman rank correlation
coefficient.
The results revealed that religion (r = 0.81) and working support in practice from the catchment area
(r = 0.43) were positively related to caregivers' skills in caring for the older adult at a high level (p-value
< 0.001). While the supporting from families and communities (r = 0.50) and attitude (r = 0.36), were positively
related to caregivers' skills in caring for the older adult at moderate and low levels (p-value < 0.001), respectively.
The results showed that the relevant departments should support the work of health personnel by
supporting information and work equipment to improve caregivers' skills in caring for the older adult. The support
of families and communities, as well as the use of religion, can be used to develop knowledge, create a positive
attitude towards caring for the senior citizen, and caregivers' skills in caring for the older adult.
