Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the weight loss behaviors of female students and to study factors associated with the weight loss behaviors of Naresuan University female students. The sample consisted of 402 female students studying in years 1 to 4. The instrument in this study was questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The relationships were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Eta correlation coefficient.
The results showed that the subjects had moderate overall weight loss behaviors with an average of 1.83 (S.D. = 0.19). When considered each aspect, the highest was the exercise with an average score of 2.79 (S.D. = 0.35), followed by the dietary control with an average score of 2.75 (S.D. = 0.28), and the use of dietary supplement with an average score of 1.19 (S.D. = 0.49), respectively. Factors associated with weight loss at the level of significant 0.05 were perceived benefits of weight loss (r = 0.174, p-value < 0.001), and perceived barrier of weight loss (r = -0.117, p = 0.019). This study can lead the improvement in promoting good weight loss behaviors in female students by focusing on developing the perceived benefits of losing weight and reducing perceived barriers of losing weight in this group.
