Participants were assessed by demographic questionnaires, the Thai version of Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the Thai version of Zarit Burden Interview(ZBI).

Result : Among the 70 caregivers of schizophrenia patients, most of the participants were female (61.4%), and mostly the mothers of the patients (28.6%) whose mean age of 52.9 years. The mean duration of care was 6.7 years and the mean age of the patients was 41.3 years.The prevalence of depression and caregiver burden among this group of caregivers were 12.9% and 23.0%, respectively. Logistic regression analyses indicated that the statistically significant risk factors associated with caregiver burden are: bad experiences in patient-caring (adjusted OR 4.8, p = 0.032), and regular cigarette smoking in patients (adjusted OR 5.0, p = 0.039). However, none of these factors is significantly associated with depression in caregivers.

Conclusion : Depression and burden are found quite often in caregivers of patients with schizophrenia. Assessment of these conditions is important for doctors to reduce feelings of burden or detect depression from the onset of symptoms.
}, number={4}, journal={Journal of the Psychiatric Association of Thailand}, author={พิศณุ วิลาสินี and เจริญบุญ ธรรมนาถ}, year={2019}, month={Dec.}, pages={317–336} }
