Abstract

The objective of this survey research was to study factors affecting the performance of village health volunteers according to the guidelines for tuberculosis control in Phitsanulok Province. The sample was 414 village health volunteers in Phitsanulok Province. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument for data collection. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression. The results of this study indicated that most of the respondents were females (82.13 %). An average age was 48.29 years. The respondents’ age ranged from 20 to 76 years. Most of them were agriculturists (45.41 %), earned monthly family income of 9,840.28 Baht. An average period of being village health volunteers was 12.23 years, ranged from 1 to 43 years. In addition, factors affecting the performance of village health volunteers according to the guidelines for tuberculosis control were occupation (Beta=0.075), appraisal support (Beta=0.225), instrumental support (Beta=0.191), emotional support (Beta=0.292), attitude towards care for patients with tuberculosis (Beta=0.187) and age (Beta=-0.075), respectively. All 6 factors could jointly predict 50.90 % of the variance in the performance of village health volunteers according to the guidelines for tuberculosis control in Phitsanulok Province, with a statistical significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the findings should be applied as a guideline for improving the practice of the village health volunteers in greater efficient manner.
